ABOUT THE ARCHIVE/LISTING

Unless otherwise noted, all stories link offsite.

This archive/listing is a spin-off of FUGUES FICTION ARCHIVE: THE X-FILES EDITION and the HOUSE EDITION which started as a personal list/archive of my favorite stories, made conveniently accessible on any computer connected to the internet.

Each story added here is notable for high quality writing, well-formed plot, and engaging narrative.

Most stories added here are novel-length (over 50,000 words, but usually 100,000 words or more) with less emphasis on shorter stories (i.e. under 10,000 words). I will attempt to note the longer stories, but if a story has no length denoted, assume short to mid-length (or "mid-novel length", approximately 10,000 to 50,000 words)

Not all stories here are personal favorites. I do add stories that I am ambivalent towards, because others may enjoy them more than I do.

At this point, I am not adding smut-centered stories, crack!fic, or meta to this archive.

This archive is updated and added-to regularly. Please visit FICTION ARCHIVE UPDATES for lists of newly-added stories.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or would like to have your story removed from this listing, please email me at foxestacado@gmail.com

To leave general feedback or recommend a story, please post a comment here. Livejournal membership is not required.

POLICY ON RATINGS, SPOILERS & WIPs

This listing uses the G - NC17 rating system. I assign an appropriate rating for unrated stories, or stories using a different rating system.

This listing assumes you have read all 7 Harry Potter books. However, the categories are loosely based on how "canon" the stories are, whether it is Post-Half-Blood Prince or Post-Deathly Hallows.

This listing does not necessarily specify whether a story is a WIP (work-in-progress). Unless a story has been "abandoned" for quite some time, this listing will not specify it as a WIP.

CLASSICS

Don't know where to start? Start here. This is a list of, what I believe, to be the absolute gems of this listing. This category includes all Post-Hogwarts/Post-Deathly Hallows stories, of all genres and pairings. These stories are also listed in their respective categories.

Arsenic, RULE OF LAW

Hermione believes that the reasons behind one's actions really do matter. Rated NC-17. Hermione/Snape. Novel-length. Notes: This is one of the best Snape/Hermione stories I have read. I was tempted to put this story under the POST-HOGWARTS ADVENTURES category, because the "adventure" of the story is largely cerebral, before it transmutes into a matter of romance. In any case, it is neither typically romance or adventure, but an intellectually engaging narrative with some of the best Hermione and Snape characterizations I have come across. All of the characters' voices are natural, real, canonical, endlessly entertaining, and provocative.

Casirafics, SEVEN PHOTOGRAPHS

"'I know you always saw me as my father's son," Harry said. "I just... hope there were times you saw my mother in me, too. Because I love her for all the same reasons... that you did, and I miss her, and I envy all the time you had with her. And I wish... I wish I could have known you like she did, so at least I'd.....'" Rated PG.

GreenGecko, RESONANCE

Fantastically-written, realistic character portrayals, action-packed epic. Year six and Harry needs rescuing by Dumbledore and Snape. The resulting understanding between Harry and Snape is critical to destroying Voldemort and leads to an offer of adoption. Covers year seven and Auror training. Sequels: REVOLUTIONRESOLUTION. Harry/other female characters, Snape/other female character. Rated PG-13. Novel-length.

Jocelyn, HARRY POTTER & THE BATTLE OF WILLS

Harry mourns his godfather as the war finally begins in earnest, bringing tragedy and new struggles for all those on the side of Good. If they hope to win, old quarrels must be set aside, new alliances must be forged, and Harry Potter must find the courage to face down dark wizards, his own emotions, and a destiny he did not choose. Rated R for violence. Novel-length.

JunoMagic, APPRENTICE AND THE NECROMANCER, THE

Hermione saves Snape's life in the Shrieking Shack. While he is still in coma at St. Mungo's, slowly recovering from his injuries, he's put on trial for his crimes. In spite of Harry's efforts to get him pardoned, Snape's freedom comes with a condition. He gets released on probation for three years. To prove his social rehabilitation, Snape needs to find a wife within these three years, or it's a life-sentence in Azkaban for him. But finding a wife is not as easy as it used to be in the wizarding world. To prevent genetic defects resulting from constant inbreeding among purebloods, a marriage law has been passed. The wizarding genealogies have been bespelled so that only people with favourable combinations of genes will receive the permission to marry. Harry and his friends decide to save Snape from Azkaban and to find him a wife. Naturally, things go very wrong and Hermione ends up being volunteered for the job. Trying to win Snape's trust as his apprentice, Hermione discovers that there's more to Severus Snape than she ever knew. At her master's side, she gets sucked into a web of political and magical intrigue, nefarious plots and evil schemes. Muggle-born witches and wizards die, Necromancers are afoot, a wizarding portrait stops moving, the Deathly Hallows disappear and resurface again … And in the middle of it all, Hermione falls head over heels, hopelessly and completely in love with Severus Snape.

Rated PG-13. Snape/Hermione. Novel-length.

Lizbee, GIRL MOST LIKELY

Fifteen years after he defeated Voldemort, Harry Potter is an increasingly disillusioned Auror, a distinctly un-merry widower, and an extremely reluctant messiah. In the line of duty, he encounters Severus Snape's ugly, unlovable daughter. Lilith Snape could prove the embodiment – and possible resolution – of more than one multi-generational family feud, provided that her relatives don't succeed in murdering her before her next birthday. Of course, being brutally murdered – or worse – will be nothing compared with what her father will do when he finds out that Harry Potter has appointed himself her personal white knight and saviour. Rated R for violence and adult concepts. Novel-length.

Mary Caroline, GETTING CLOSER TO FINE

"Harry had joined the Aurors shortly after his eighteenth birthday. He'd spent most of the summer after Voldemort's defeat in St. Mungo's; on the morning of his discharge, he'd been met in the hospital lobby by a representative of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. It seemed experience in the field carried more weight than N.E.W.T. results, and the Aurors were very interested indeed in having Harry Potter embark on a crash training course. Since then, he'd learned that the job wasn't nearly as glamorous as he and Ron had once imagined. The hours were long and unpredictable; the paperwork staggering; and his immediate supervisor was an odd old man with a strange eye who stood for very few excuses." Harry/Hermione. Rated PG-13. Novel-length.

pir8fancier, HOME FRIES NAZI

When Harry defeats Voldemort, the Death Eaters lose their magic. Snape decamps to the United States, where he becomes a fry cook in a diner. Seven years after Voldemort's defeat, Harry comes to him for advice. Rated NC17. Harry/Snape. Notes: This is such a lovely, beautifully written fic, that is one part humor, two parts pathos. Mid-novel length.

theatresm, BRAVE NEW WORLD

"The tale of the professor of Muggle Studies, as she raises her troubled nephew and comes to terms with her job, her colleagues, and the difficulties inherent in being a Muggle teacher at a magical school.... it is remarkably compelling, and well worth the mental time and energy it will consume. Miranda may look like a Mary Sue, but she is a million times more interesting than the beautiful exchange students and mysterious Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers that populate fanon. Her integration into the universe is helped by the fact that every other character is perfectly written, especially Snape, who is as snarky and cruel as his canon incarnation, and as intriguing and attractive as the fanon version." (Review written by Bright Shiny Objects). Rated PG-13-R. Snape/Other Female Character. Novel-length.

Theowyn, HARRY POTTER AND THE ENEMY WITHIN

As Harry enters his sixth year at Hogwarts, Voldemort's lengthening shadow stretches across the wizarding world and Harry is tormented by the knowledge that he alone can end this reign of terror. Worse, his mysterious mental link to Voldemort is stronger than ever and threatens to overwhelm him. Only Snape can teach him to control the nightmarish visions, but can Harry and Snape learn to trust one another, or will an old grudge that refuses to die destroy the wizarding world's sole hope of defeating the Dark Lord?" This story was written prior to the release of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Rated PG-13.

Theowyn, HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAINED SOULS

Sequel to HARRY POTTER AND THE ENEMY WITHIN. Voldemort has risen to power once again. As Harry comes of age, he must discover the secret of how Voldemort cheated death and find a way to defeat this evil once and for all. Along the way, he will have to contend with Death Eaters, shadowy Ministry officials and suspicions that threaten to tear his own allies apart. And he will need to delve farther than ever before into the mysteries of the mind where victory can only be won by freeing the chained souls. Rated R for violence. Harry/Snape mentorship.

zeegrindylows, WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS

A man thought to be murdered by Voldemort survives to face both the ghosts of his past and the promises of his future. Snape/Hermione, Snape/Lily, Harry/Ginny. Rated NC17 for violence. Novel-length.

ladybug, A WHOLE MINUTE

A minute can be a defining moment, a turning point, or just another episode in what makes you the person you are. A minute, for Seamus Finnigan, can last an inordinately long time or pass in the blink of an eye. But every minute makes him who he is. Rated PG-13.

THE ADVENTURES CONTINUE: POST-HOGWARTS

Post-Hogwarts, post-war adventure (i.e. plot- and mystery-driven) stories that do not follow the canon established by, or were written prior to the release of, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, or other books. Stories may include romantic subplot.

aashby, CHAOS IS COME AGAIN

"Pureblood families had intermarried for so long in an attempt to keep the magical lines pure and strong that less desirable, more insidious traits had woven their way into the delicate helices that made Magical humans possible.Hermione Granger was in a position to know. While her speciality was Theoretic Arithmancy, her thorough, overall grasp of other Magical fields -- and some Muggle ones which she made it her business to acquire a grasp of, such as Genetics -- made her a Generalist, able to easily see connections between the dry numbers spewn out of the Wizard Resources Division of the Ministry, the Registry of Marriages and Births, and the scientific information provided by the Research Department at St. Mungo's." Hermione/Snape. Rated NC17. Novel-length. Notes: Although this is Snape/Hermione, this is not a pleasant romantic relationship. Warnings: coerced relationship.

Abby, OTHER SIDE OF DARKNESS, THE

"Taking a deep breath, and with what she considered to be a wholly irrational and unreasonable sense of foreboding, she began to open the package. Her initial hunch was quite correct - she carefully unwrapped a bottle made of dark green glass, about one third full of some liquid which, upon agitation, appeared to have the consistency of cough syrup. The container itself was perfectly plain apart from a symbol embossed on the front. It consisted of a capital M inside a circle. The proportions of the letter were odd, she thought. The upright strokes were further apart than usual, and the V in the middle was shallow. And there was a nagging familiarity that to it that she couldn't quite place. Narrowing her eyes she took a pad of paper out of her desk and began to make a careful copy of the symbol. If this was Harry's potion then it was hardly something she could carry about with her. Tearing the completed copy from the pad she folded it up and put it in her pocket. On an impulse she tore off the next four or five blank sheets. There was no trace on the pad that she had ever written anything on it. She didn't quite know what she was getting herself into, but there was no point in being careless." Snape/Hermione, rated NC17. Medium novel-length.

Ajarntham, FLOURISH & BOTTS HOUR - TRANSCRIPT

"Flourish & Blotts: He's a veteran of the Siege of Hogwarts; he's one of the original members of Dumbledore's Army; and now he has written a book, " Harry Potter: The Man who has Started Living," the first authorized biography of the wizarding world's greatest hero. Anthony Goldstein will be with us for the next two hours to talk about his book, and to answer your questions about his old classmate. Anthony, welcome to the Flourish and Blotts Book Hour." Short. Rated PG.

akissinacrisis, THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T DO AT CHRISTMAS

Ginny reckons everyone sleeps with their ex once. Or twice. Don't they? Rated NC17. Harry/Ginny. Short.

Arabella & Zsenya, AFTER THE END

"'I swear to die for you, Harry. I love you.' Hermione's voice was clear, and the bluebell flame flickered in the center of the circle, near her feet. She held his hand tightly, and Harry was amazed to see, by the look in her face, that she meant what she was saying. He knew that she had to mean it – otherwise this spell would never have any effect. But hearing those words issue from Hermione in such a serious way caused a more powerful reaction in Harry than he had anticipated.

With her free hand, Hermione raised her wand and touched it to his scar. "In nomine Expecto Sacrificum.'" Rated PG-13.

auntie_mame, THE NEXT GREAT ADVENTURE

"Staring at the image of his younger self, he ran his hand through his black hair, marveling at how silky it felt in comparison to the wiry and course gray hair he had when he went to bed the night before.

His legendary scar was gone too. But that wasn't a surprise. His life had been filled with that wish and with the reality that it could only happen in his dreams." Rated PG.

empathic siren, DRACO'S LOVE FORTUNES AND THE HOUSE OF CHEN

Fittingly, they are widely considered to be the most dangerous and unpredictable out of all the previous residents. He has a long way to go, but finally and with a little encouragement, Harry is ready to begin his own journey home." Rated PG-13

jardyn39, SHOEBOX, THE

Meanwhile, as one shy and reclusive student pursues a secret obsession in the castle, another frightened youth hides deep in the Forbidden Forest. JennieMac, AFTER THE WAR

"Many call him Hero, or the Boy Who Lived, or The Great Harry Potter. I call him only Harry, my friend. I miss him terribly. And I want to tell his story, so you can know him the way he really was. He was always uncomfortable with the extra attention he got because of his scar, and I know this book would only cause him to squirm, like he used to do when people stared at him. Arsenic, BEST OF INTENTIONS, THE

Ginny's plans for Draco go awry. Rated NC-17. Ginny/Draco.

Arsenic, CARE OF MAGICAL CREATURES

"Hermione was too smart not to recognize her own psychoses. She was well aware that she was nursing a guilt complex but for the most part, completely powerless to do anything about it." Hermione/Sirius/Snape, Hermione/Harry/Ron. Rated NC17. Sequels: MATING FOR LIFE; INSIDE, WAITING; WHERE YOU HANG YOUR ROBES; APPELLATION; FLIGHT PATTERNS; REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE; HOLIDAY; FEMALE BONDING

Arsenic, COLLATERAL

"When she wakes up, she is a pawn.

Hostage.

Pawn brings up images of black and white squares and a boy on a bronze horse, and Hermione can't think of that just then--not when his blood has barely dried on her clothes. It's making them stiff and itchy, but with the way Bellatrix is looking at her, she can't help but be grateful to have them, full stop." Hermione/Snape. Rated R.

Arsenic, COMFORT FOOD

Harry never falls for the nice guys. Rated NC17. Harry/Draco

Arsenic, FIELDS OF ST. HERVE, THE

"Draco has marks that he hides. It's not always easy, particularly in the summer, but he has good, solid British weather and the wizarding penchant for robes on his side. Most days, either of those is enough. Also in his corner is the fact that in the wake of his father's--and most of his extended family's--execution for Crimes Against the British Wizarding Population, people tend to cut Draco a wide berth and look steadfastly in the other direction when they see him in the street." Rated NC17. Draco/Lupin.

Arsenic, HEATING CHARMS

Hermione makes the trip out to Durmstrang despite a winter that has verged on the deadly--has been deadly for more than a few Muggles--because Viktor says, "'I know some pretty good heating charms.'" Hermione/Viktor Krum. Rated NC17

Arsenic, HIDEAWAY

Severus and Hermione tell each other secrets. Snape/Hermione. Rated G.

Arsenic, INTRINSIC CHARM

"Iris sighs. 'Tell me what to think, Severus. You're the man children hate and fear but you're also the man who suffered to save as many of those children as possible, the man who has spent the years of his life when he reasonably could have escaped his past piecing back together the remnants of it for the good of others. Do I find you the type to play with her? Hardly. I doubt you know the definition of play. Do I find you the type to act out your undying love? I'm not entirely sure I believe you know the definition of that either.'" Snape/Lovegood, Harry/Hermione, Draco/Ginny. Rated PG-13. Novel-length.

Arsenic, LINES UNDRAWN

Snape unknowingly does Hermione a favor. Snape/Hermione. Rated NC17

Arsenic, RULE OF LAW

Hermione believes that the reasons behind one's actions really do matter. Rated NC-17. Hermione/Snape. Novel-length.

Arsenic, SEASONAL AFFECTATION DISORDER

"In the winter, summer and even spring, Harry would sleep long, lazy, determined hours. In the earlier years when they were still learning to accept loss and accept each other, this had scared Tonks. She had thought it a sign of depression." Harry/Tonks. Rated PG-13

Arsenic, TRANSFORMATION

Remus is still in a cycle of starting over. Kingsley's been pining for quite some time. Lupin/Shackelbolt, Harry/Luna, Hermione/Draco, Ginny/Neville. Rated PG-13.

Calligraphy, FOURTH YEAR, THE

Snape lives as Harry Potter's prisoner (and more or less servant) as a convicted Death Eater serving time in house arrest. An unexpected attack changes things. Or have things already been changing? Notes: This is a really lovely, well-written story, with excellent (albeit non-canonical) characterizations of Harry and Snape, and their awkward friendship/relationship. Rated NC17. Harry/Snape.

Calligraphy, SO LONELY WITHOUT ME

Two men, two rooms, a war. "Already Severus knows more about Potter than he ever wanted. He knows that Potter can only sleep with his back against a wall. He knows that Potter snores when he isn't feeling well. He knows that Potter waits for him to fall asleep before he cries. He knows what Potter's bare, slim legs look like—and the lean line of his stomach. He knows that some nights Potter gets cold and lonely in the bed and seeks out the other body for a bit of heat and comfort, his form tucking close against Snape as if using his Potions Master as a windbreak." Snape/Harry. Rated NC17. Mid-novel length

Cedar, RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS AND SENSELESS ACTS OF DUTY

"It would be a ridiculous thing for Harry to have told anyone else except for maybe Luna Lovegood, and even though he knows she would understand, he keeps his secret. By now the war is over -- not long over, but over. Nott is still alive and Harry knows it's because of him. Or in spite of, perhaps. Come January nights, when the candles burn low and the air in Harry's bedroom fairly shimmers with the heat from their bodies, the war will be the last thing on their minds.

Yes, it definitely started with the thestrals." Harry/Ted Nott. Rated PG-13

ChelleyBean, ANTIGONE

"Time stretched out. She felt as though her legs and body were made of lead as she watched the green bolt of light stretch towards her with agonizing slowness. This is it. This is the end of my life. Who will feed Pi? Odd, that her last thoughts were of her familiar, the gorgeous and clever python her father had bought for her the day she turned five, much to her mother’s rage, and was now a good seven feet long." Rated PG-13. Novel-length.

Cluegirl, BLOOD AND FIRE

After the deaths of Dumbledore and Voldemort, Severus Snape must learn to cope with yet another Master; Harry Potter. Rated NC17. Snape/Harry. Mid-novel length.

Cluegirl, EVERYBODY'S FOOL

Harry Potter: Bruised veteran of too many heartbreaks; cynical, jaded drunkard; Wardwright, war hero, recluse, and part time matchmaker. Next target -- Severus Snape, who has a lot to learn about love. Rated NC17. Snape/Harry. Novel-length.

Corgi, TO HEAL A SOUL

Severus has a mysterious illness. Fawkes knows the cause and is determined to fix it. Rated PG-13. Harry/Snape. Sequel: TO MEND A HEART

Couer_de_ma_vie, PUZZLE PIECES

Nothing about the war turned out the way I thought it would. Short. Rated NC17. Snape/Harry. Warnings: PTSD, Triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13), OCD, Paranoid personality disorder, Self Injury.

Coeur_de_ma_vie, SHAME

"Silently he would suppress the ball of heat that caught in his stomach or the shiver that travelled over his body whenever the topic of Snape would come up. Shame. It choked him. It made him cringe inside, as Snape's anatomy would be ripped apart, examined and found revolting. It made him lay awake some nights while Neville snored and Dean tried creeping back into the dorm after his visits to Ravenclaw and Ron muttered rubbish in his sleep. It made him angry and left him feeling trapped when he realized that he wouldn't be able to go on his own excursions for the night." Rated R. Harry/Snape. Short.

Cyrelia J, KING OF PAIN

Past and present Severus Snape is suffering from a serious eating disorder. Rated R. Harry/Snape. Mid-novel length.

DementorDelta, DREAMING SPIRES, THE

Severus Snape gets on with his life after the war. A story of loss and love. Rated NC17. Harry/Snape

Diannan, ROMEO

Harry's worst nightmare. Harry/Snape. Rated PG-13. Warnings: character death. Short.

DragonLight, PARADOX OF EXISTENCE, THE

On Assignment for Dumbledore in the past, Harry sees his lover from an unexpected perspective. That of a teacher. Notes: This is really an excellent, thought-provoking, intensely compelling story. I was tempted to put this in Post-Hogwarts Gen, but decided that it would do better as romance. But believe me, this is so much more than romance. Harry/Snape. Rated R.

Emma Grant, LEFT MY HEART

Auror Draco Malfoy has disappeared, and Harry Potter has been sent to San Francisco to find him. Rated NC17. Harry/Draco.

fourth_rose, WORLD OF THE LIVING, THE

A traumatised war hero and a convicted criminal under the roof of an eccentric journalist make for a rather odd ensemble, but Luna has never had a problem with oddities as long as they make sense. Rated R. Harry/Draco.

LizBee, ONE STEP TOO FAR

Prequel to GIRL MOST LIKELY. "Still, old habits died hard: Snape had no love for Aurors. He liked to think the feeling was entirely mutual." Snape/other female character. Snape/Hermione. Rated PG-13.

lomonaaeren, DRACO MALFOY AND THE SECRET UNDERGROUND VAMPIRE BUREAUCRACY

In which there is an obsessed Potter, conspiracy theories, bonds, hormones, far too much self-help, and, of course, a secret underground vampire bureaucracy. None of which is as important as the fact that this is not Draco Malfoy's fault. Somewhat DH-compliant. Harry/Draco. Rated NC17. Mid-novel length.

miasnape, WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR

An unwillingly pursued Severus tests the limits of the saying 'that's what friends are for', with some interesting results. Rated PG-13. Harry/Snape. Short.

Mirabella, HARRY POTTER AND THE INCONVENIENT CONDITION

Seven years after Voldemort's defeat, Harry comes to him for advice. Rated NC17. Harry/Snape. Notes: This is such a lovely, beautifully written fic, that is one part humor, two parts pathos. Mid-novel length

pir8fancier, LET'S PRETEND THE WAR IS OVER

Draco spends his days debating whether or not he's crazy. Harry is the take-away king. Rated PG-13. Harry/Draco.

pir8fancier, ROOM SERVICED

Hermione learns that any port in a storm might have a high price. Rated NC17. Hermione/Draco. Short.

pir8fancier, THIS BOY'S LIFE

Snape is Scheherazade. Rated NC17. Harry/Snape. Notes: Gorgeously-written. Snape tells Harry stories about his mother, and both do some soul-searching.

Praevaricor, ON DAFTNESS

Draco wants Harry. Harry wants Draco. So why is everything so difficult? Rated NC17. Harry/Draco.

quizzical, ALL THAT THEY HAD NOT LOST

"It seemed it had only ever been the three of them. He had lost count of how long they had been together. Was it years or months? Was it lifetimes? Only the three of them- even when there were others around." Harry/Ron/Hermione. Rated R.

Slytherincess, ADJUDICATION

Adjudication: To settle judiciously. Forgive thyself, for love is a complicated thing. The trio's seventh year finds Ron desperately worried for Harry's fate, hopelessly pining for Hermione's attentions, and slowly coming to terms with his family, himself, and his eventual place in the world. After escaping a life-threatening situation through wit and resourcefulness, Ron will learn the hard way how one singular event can change everything. This, combined with the unexpected attentions of one perfectly wretched, ever-vexing Slytherin girl, will forever meld together within Ron's psyche to weave a rich and complex foundation for a future life fully lived. One moment. One choice. One lifetime. Rated R. Ron/Pansy.

The GiantSquid, AN HONOR

"I was sixteen when I figured out I was in love with Hermione Granger. Sure, it must have been pretty obvious...well, obvious to everyone except Hermione and me. Especially me. I was a prat and I'll be the first to admit it. But how was I supposed to know that what I was feeling at the Yule Ball was jealousy? Honestly, I didn't know! Seeing her dancing and laughing and flirting 'ugh!'with Krum made me sick to my stomach, made my chest ache and my eyes narrow, but how was I supposed to know? I was a fourteen-year-old teenage boy. I was an idiot. Sometimes I feel like I still am." Rated PG-13.

Tira Nog, NOCTURNE

Harry is living an empty life as an auror until he meets up with an old professor who is in a bit of a predicament. Harry/Snape. Rated NC17.

Warded_portal, BLOOD FROM A STONE

"Upon waking, I meditate upon the ninth form of Occlumency, Shadow Fortress. All emotion, all feeling must be compartmentalized, isolated and sublimated. I envision a featureless sphere of soot black coal, diamond hard, impenetrable. As I reach the final stages of the exercise, envisioning the last of the seals disappearing into the stone, the first hint of morning sun penetrates the sole high window of my cell. It fills the ten foot by ten foot granite walled room that I have spent the last three years of my life inhabiting, illuminating every mote of dust and deepening the shadows in the corners. Some days, there is no greater threat to my composure than that single honey coloured beam of light." Snape/Hermione. Rated PG.

Amber-and-Ash, LIFE AFTER LIFE

"While the soul will usually release once the feeding reaches a certain point, the following section will teach you how to force this release. Practice this extensively on animals before attempting it on a sentient being - it is a common mistake to reverse the desired effects, absorbing the soul and releasing the blood-magic. This will destroy all traces of the sentient's existence, and triggers another level of blood-curse (see chapter 4). In other words, it's a Very Bad Idea." Snape/Harry mentorship. Rated PG-13. Short novel.

Antonia East, CHASING CLOUDS

Harry, Ron and Hermione stood shoulder to shoulder. They stood, Ginny realised, in height order. Ron was still taller than Harry – when would her stupid brother ever stop growing? – and Harry in turn was quite a bit taller than Hermione. elsa, TANIWHA

"The rest of the journey didn't take long. Snape drove in silence, and Harry had a lot to think about. After carefully fording a stream they travelled a little way along a dirt track, and Harry began to appreciate the abilities of the four-wheel-drive. Otherwise, he supposed, they would have had to borrow that horse. He bit his lip to stop grinning at the thought of Snape on the shaggy old pony. He stopped smiling when he realised the car had stopped outside a white cottage. It was as though a piece of England had been picked up and put down in the middle of nowhere. The sun as it sank over the mountains shone rosily off the walls. On the south side ivy grew, stopping just short of the shingled roof with its brick chimney. There was no front lawn, but herbs made good ground cover and short bushes Harry didn't recognise bordered what would be a delightful garden in summer. It was so warm, such a friendly little house, Harry wondered how Snape had managed to get hold of it. Certainly it was at the opposite end of the spectrum to the Slytherin dungeons." Rated PG.

RedBlaze, HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

"Blinking Christmas lights glowed in the darkness, making the fluffy white snow on the ground reflect the festive colors. Ron walked with a spring in his step, casually smoking the cigarette he had bummed off one of the bartenders at the club as his heavy boots crunched in the snow. He could Apparate back to the hotel, but he had a few things to do and didn't mind the walk. It's not like he had to worry about someone spotting him at half past three in the morning. Not that he really worried about it all that much anyway. He'd altered his appearance so much his own mother probably wouldn't recognize him. With the exception of his red hair, which Hermione had firmly refused to let him glamour to brown, he really bore no resemblance to he kid he was when he'd left home at seventeen." Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione. Rated PG-13.

theatresm, BRAVE NEW WORLD

This story was written prior to the release of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Rated PG-13.

The Velvet Ghost, HARRY POTTER AND THE ANKH OF KHEPRI

Sequel to HARRY POTTER AND THE PHOENIX'S FLIGHT. "A cold hand touched the side of his face, tilted his head up, and those dark eyes were staring down at him, reaching right inside him, tearing him apart and scattering his mind and his soul into pieces. The mind was no longer a thing, a single voice, but hundreds, spread apart and examined one by one. There was another something there, a something he'd never known before, something that was dark and yet soothing. It was moving amongst his mind and dipping into the utmost corners of his conscience. He was only dimly aware of the bowl of water next to him, and his fingers trailing around in it, and then... heat was pouring from his hand, weeping into the water so fast and hard nobody had any time to prepare for it. The temperature of the water went shrieking skywards as it boiled. In front of him, he dimly saw Snape's smile." Rated PG-13. Novel-length.
